Pneumonia

After 10 days of not feeling well we finally got the diagnosis that Bishop has pneumonia. I took him to his pediatrician on Wednesday and saw the NP there (who I went to college with)! She couldn't determine it was anything specific and figured it was a virus. He was negative for strep and everything else looked and sounded pretty good. They did draw his blood and she said his WBC were in the middle range. However, if he still had a fever on Thursday she said to bring him back in.

Wednesday night into Thursday his fever seemed to go down--so I sent him to Mpls Kids only to pick him up with a high fever looking absolutely miserable! I felt so bad for him!

Luke and I brought him back to his ped office on Friday morning and saw his Dr. She drew some more blood--checked him out and had a chest xray performed. He had a soft ball sized infection in his right lung, there was no doubt it is pneumonia! His WBC was at 22 (the high end is 11)! So she ordered an antibiotic and told us to take it easy over the 4th of July weekend. This meant no camping (we had plans to camp with the Hennum's)--but it wouldn't have been fun for anyone for him to camp with his cough/fever and tiredness!

The antibiotic kicked in and his fever was down by Saturday. He was so tired--he went to bed at 5:30pm on Saturday and slept until 5:30am! He took 2 hour naps each day over the weekend too, so he needed his rest as I can't remember the last time he took a nap (and most of the time he did it without us even knowing he went to lay down).

It's been a longer recovery than we're used to--as it was a pretty nasty infection, but he's coming around! He's been a pretty mellow kid, which we're not used to! We're excited to have him back to 100% soon!
