Winter has Arrived!

Winter arrived last Monday, November 10th and I think it's here to stay! They predicted 8-14 inches or so, but we didn't get as much as they originally thought! The kids woke up on Monday and couldn't contain themselves--they were so excited and got bundled up so they could start playing in it!

Icicles are also a big hit--and as you can see--they are usually eaten (or used as pretend swords)!

Luke went to the Gopher Football game on Saturday and endured the cold and snow for the game....while the kids and I had a great time together! We started out with basketball for Bishop and then we went to The Good Times Park, which is an indoor park in Eagan. We met some friends there and played for just about 3 hours! I thought that would tire the kids out--but there were no naps on Sat!

Sunday was another day to get outside--Bishop and Johnny played with their Tonka Trucks and we got out sledding for the first time this year! Bishop loved it and went with both Luke and I and on his own as well. Nora went with both Luke and I and seemed to really enjoy it--but after that she was ready to play at the park! It was a little windy, which made it pretty cold, but it felt good to get out and get some fresh air!

I had to add this video of the kids wrestling! They have so much fun together--and it's obvious Nora has learned to hold her own!

Fall turns into Winter and SJU Football game

We tried to get as much out of the great fall we had as possible! We had a nice, warm, beautiful fall and I loved every minute of it!

Sunday after church we went out for brunch. The kids got some non-candy "treats" from my parents for Halloween and worked on them while we waited for our food. It was water colors with q-tips--pretty cool and the kids thought they were really neat!

We biked to the park after brunch and played for awhile and I took the kids to a new park (Chutes and Ladders in Bloomington) to play with Danny in the afternoon.

On Saturday we drove up to St. John's after basketball to watch SJU play Bethel in football. It was much cooler than it had been (temps were in the 30s), but we bundled up and the kids really enjoyed the game! The atmosphere is really neat there as well and it was a great game! Nora really got into it--she was cheering "GO RED" and "First Down"! During the national anthem the announcer asked everyone to remove their "caps" so Nora took her hat off! We watched some of the game, walked around a bit and Bishop found a friend that he played catch with for a bit. We hung out with Grandpa and Grandma and stayed until they left (with about 3 minutes left in the game). The Johnnies played great and won, easily!

We made a family train down the slide, but Nora and I are the only ones in the picture!

Bishop and Nora Update

These two......they can't seem to get enough of each other lately. It is the sweetest thing! They love each other so much and they just love being together! They have their moments, for sure, but for the majority they are happiest together!

Bishop has told me numerous times that Nora is his best friend--nothing makes me happier!

So many of my updates are about what we are doing and not as much about HOW we are doing....so this post is for HOW we are doing.

Nora moved up to the preschool room at "school" (Kindercare) on Oct. 20th. We decided to have her move up a few weeks early (she was due to officially move up on Nov. 11th) as she seemed to be getting bored in her class and was ready for a new challenge. She's dong great and absolutely loves it! The first time she visited (back in Sept) she had a hard time (was sad and emotional), but every time since then she's loved it. She especially loves getting to play with her brother outside! They have to encourage both of them to also spend time with friends their own age, which goes pretty well.

Nora has started practicing her writing and relatively speaking she's doing really well. She is more of a rule follower than Bishop and wants to be a "good listener"....she does a good job of pointing out when she's being a good listener and Bishop's not! :) However, she tends to be a little moody. I'm not sure what it is but when we pick her up she acts kind of moody (quiet, won't look at us or answer any questions we have, says she has bad days when she doesn't, etc). I'm afraid it's just a sneak peak of what's to come! Eek! I should be fully prepared-she reminds me so much of myself! ;) Don't get me wrong--she is a very sweet girl, who has a beautiful smile that lights up the room! Her snuggles and hugs are second to none and she loves cuddling on the couch (or in bed). ;)

She was on a streak where she'd wake up in the middle of the night and want to join us in bed--for quite awhile she'd just walk down and come in bed with us--and then she started asking for us to come get her. I put her in warmer PJs, turned her space heater and humidifier on and the past few nights she's slept so well-she'll stay in her bed all night long, which also means she sleeps later! Ahhh!!

She can be a hoot at times too--a few weeks ago when she was still in her old classroom she asked her teacher if she had a baby in her belly--her teacher said "no". Nora went on to tell her teacher that her mom has a baby in her belly! Being a little skeptical, the teacher asked....who told you that? To which Nora replied-"my mom.......on the way to school today". Her teacher knew this wasn't the case because she knew I was out of town for work all week!! And, NO, I do NOT have a baby in my belly--for anyone who's wondering! :) Makes me wonder who else she told that too! :)

She's not as interested in movies as Bishop is--she can get into them, but she's more of a busy body (which is also like me). I know she's excited to start her own activities (soccer, basketball, swimming, etc). When she turns 3 we'll start introducing her to some things.

Bishop is doing very well in school. We had conferences with his teacher recently and she was very impressed with what he knew, his writing, letters and numbers. It wasn't that long ago that he hadn't mastered his letters yet, but he picked them up and is doing great! His best friend at school continues to be Henry Kruger. There are 4 boys (including him) in his class that can cause some "boy trouble"--they like to have fun together and sometimes get a little rough when they play outside. He continues to be very active and loves to play! He's just started basketball again and is in swimming. He loves basketball. It took him the whole season last year to have interest and this year he's taking shots, dribbling the ball down the floor and most importantly racing to the other end of the floor the fastest!

He is so good to his little sister--and he's picked up on how to help out with her. I'm not sure how he figured it out--but he knows if he asks Nora in a certain way for something she'll say "yes" to him (and mean it). He's a little negotiator for sure--sounds like a little salesmen sometimes! :)

He's been sleeping pretty well too--he likes coming into our bed when he wakes up. He's really been into reading lately, which has been fun.  He is scared to death to get sick (throw up). He saw it on TV and Jack and Auntie Shelly have been sick recently-and he has all kinds of questions about it....it's been a great lesson in hand washing and he takes that to heart (when he remembers, of course)! :)

Bishop has grown up so much in the past year--it is fun to carry on conversations with him and to watch him learn. They are both growing up so fast!

Things are going well--and things have gotten easier recently. We all have our moments, but that's life! I am so blessed and happy to call these 2 my own.

Sibling LOVE

Happy Birthday, Shelly!

Happy birthday to the most caring, thoughtful, selfless person I know! I've said it a million times, but it's so true--you're the best sister and friend a girl could ever ask for and I'm SO thankful to have you in my life....and to be so close to you!
Thanks for all your support, encouragement, and unconditional love! I'm a better person because of you! Thanks for all your love for our entire family too! Bishop and Nora adore you and talk about you all the time! They love that you get to their level--you are so fun and they think it's the best when you get down on the floor to take a picture with them or paint their nails!

Halloween 2014!

Happy Halloween!! We had a wonderful Halloween this year! The kids were so excited to dress up and have a party at school during the day! They changed their costumes and were Minnie Mouse (thanks to cousin, Madelyn) and Spiderman!

They each had a party at school and they actually combined their classes for the party--so it was one really big party! They got to play and have activities/crafts, etc and then treats! I was working from home, so was able to join them, which was a ton of fun!

After school we went to the Kahlert's for a pizza party before trick or treating! The kids played and then got bundled up to go door to door. The weather has been so nice lately and Friday night was the coldest night in a long time! It didn't seem to bother the kids much, though! :) Nora got the hang of it and ended up going to houses all by herself! They all loved it! We went around our neighborhood and then hung out at Kahlert's for a little while after trick or treating.

Bishop woke up Saturday morning and counted his candy with dad! They counted 138 pieces or something like that--and that was just Bishop's candy!

There was another table with 4 more kids at it too!! FUN!
