On Wednesday morning Bishop woke up and his leg hurt. He limped all over the house and even into school. He had a very small bruise on his knee and he told us he hit it on his bed in the middle of the night so he wouldn't fall out. Not really knowing what was going on, we sent him to school...hoping it'd get better as he used his leg. Unfortunately, it didn't get any better. Around noon daycare called to let us know he was noticeably limping and he was hanging on to the things (walls, shelves, etc) to walk. At this point, Luke and I knew something was wrong because Bishop is one of the tougher kids I've seen. The only time he's been truly affected by an injury was when his arm would come out of its socket.
I was especially nervous because I had a 3pm flight to catch to fly out to Balitmore for an interview with my company, for a new position. Luke made an appt with the Dr at 2:15. My flight was delayed, which was actually a good thing, as Luke called me around 3. He had toxic synovitis, which is fluid in his hip due to a virus. The main concern was that there wasn't an infection in his hip, so he needed to be watched pretty closely for a fever. He continued to limp Wednesday afternoon and even Thursday morning. On Thursday afternoon he turned the corner and he was back to his active self! He told Luke when he picked him up on Thursday that he could run again!
The Dr wanted to see him again today to check things out--and he was just fine! She did the same movement on his leg/hip that she did on Wednesday that caused quite a bit of pain for him and this time it didn't bother him at all! The Dr said they take hips very seriously to make sure there's not an infection or something worse going on. He was pretty excited to get two BIG suckers twice this week (he got Tootsie Pops and he thought they were great)!
The best news is...Bishop's fine-he's back to his active self and...I got the job! It's a nice promotion and I'll be calling into hospital labs, calling on microbiologists. It'll be a challenge and there's quite the learning curve, but I'm very excited and I'm looking forward it!
